Apple iPad (16GB) Tablet Review – CNET Review Apr 2010

___________CNET Editors’ Review_____________ The GOOD: In an act of aggressive tech convergence, Apple has consolidated your Netbook, e-reader, gaming device, photo frame, and iPod into an elegant, affordable supergadget. Features such as Bluetooth, 802.11n Wi-Fi, movie rentals, 10 hours of battery life, optional 3G wireless, and the most-celebrated App Store on the planet have us pretty worked up. The BAD: The iPad’s large size is as much a hindrance as it is an advantage. As a jack-of-all-trades and a master of few, the iPad can’t entirely mimic many of the specialized products it seeks to replace. The iPad’s limited multitasking capabilities and lack of integrated video camera, Flash support, and HD video output already have us pining for next year’s model. The bottom line: The Apple iPad is the first affordable tablet computer worth owning, but it won’t (yet) replace your laptop.

@PepitoIngles except the real netbook doesn’t need to sync with other device just to transfer files. Real netbook is independent gadget

I believe that the iPad is the closest thing we will ever see to Apple’s answer to the netbook.

I don’t need a camera. I don’t need multitasking (I learned to live without it because of the iPhone lol), and I don’t need video out at all. So I guess this is good for me. But I still appreciate the review. (:

instead of this you should get the alienware m111x, pure gaming netbook. This piece of junk not worth the hype.

What’s the point to getting this? iphone/ipod seems to do the same things as this, and laptops are much cheaper and effective than getting this hunk of junk. I’m sorry, i just don’t get it.

@Fo0LzGold One thing you’re forgetting is that the iPad uses SSD drives. I’m not going to go in to detail with regards to other components, but SSD drives are very expensive. A 250GB SSD drive will most likely set you back the entire price of your netbook.

Plus, just like Steve said, they’re just “cheap laptops”. Doesn’t do anything better at the “key tasks” which Steve mentioned in his keynote. Hate to admit it, but he’s right.

why didn’t apple put a hd drive on this like in the ipod classic? 8 or 16 gigabits is nothing for the itouch and iphone in a much larger device it will look a lot less.

All I see with this device is nothing but pure potential. Another step closer to a paperless society. Sure, laptops are more powerful, but to someone who tried to avoid the learning curve associated with using a computer, pointing and clicking an object with your hands without having to learn how is less intimidating.

It’s amazing how we humans come up with all sorts of excuses just to avoid the inevitably changing world around us. We never seem to run out of complaints and negativity towards something that challenges us to change and see the possibilities.

Remember when E-Mail was first introduced; lots of humans complained because it changes their lifestyle. Now, it’s very common to hear “i’ll send you an email” vice “I’ll send you a postcard”. Humans have lots of intelligent ideas and progress potential, but sadly we hinder progress by dwelling on negativity.

I think the pricing is absolutely ridiculous. my netbook has 250GB of memory, can do anything the ipad can do, and costs less than half the price of the lowest end model ipad.

Doesn’t have flash for gods sake.
